I Know I’m not the only one…age gap

The Younger Partner Debate: Excitement or Red Flag?

The topic of men and women dating significantly younger partners has been heating up lately — and let’s be honest, some of us have been there. Whether it's a May-December romance or years' difference, these relationships stir up a lot of questions. Are they thrilling connections built on real chemistry, or are they just walking red flags dressed up as love or lust?

Some people say older people who date younger (women or men) are being predatory or manipulative. Others think they just crave the excitement, energy, and beauty of someone with fewer years behind them. And then there’s the camp that believes it's all about trying to feel young again.

But I know I’m not the only one who wonders: why not date someone your own age? Age gaps can create real barriers when it comes to shared life experience, values, and communication. Sometimes it's just hard to find common ground.

Take Shannon Sharpe, for example. In April 2025, the former NFL star and sports analyst was hit with a $50 million lawsuit, accused of sexual assault by a woman who met him when she was 20. She claims the relationship turned abusive, involving rape and emotional distress. Sharpe, now 56, denies it all and says it was a “consensual relationship” and calls the lawsuit a “shakedown.”

So… what do we make of this? Is this another celebrity scandal, or something we could’ve seen coming from miles away? Do you feel sorry for “Unc,” or do you believe the accuser? And on a more personal note — have you ever dated someone much older or younger? How did it turn out?

Is it strange, brave, or just plain messy when there's a big age gap in a relationship?
